Columbia-s come with a pretty simple but highly effective gust lock strap. While winds are not usually strong enough to damage the controls, it is a good idea to always install the gust lock when plane is parked and prevent the large rudder (particularly on 400s) from flapping away in the wind and potentially getting damaged.

Step by step

  1. Loosen the strap
  2. Align hook to face away from you
  3. Grab right rudder from the bottom
  4. Open loop up and attach to upper end of control stick
  5. Grab middle tab and pull toward you
  6. Verify result
